First..If you were a follower I must apologize for my lack of blogs this summer.
Since our Granddaughter has arrived I have been consumed with a grandmothers love. I think about Brynn all the time. Although this sounds like bliss it does have a down side.
I have been lazy, thoughtless and neglegent in the care of my own body. I have only myself to blame for this diversion of my path to weight loss goals. Not only my weight has suffered but my skin is in bad shape too. Good news is I have not gained any weight. It's not that I am eating more or even bad stuff, it's that I have not been exercising. For me to lose more weight I must move more. Summer is almost over so I am committing to myself to get back on track. Brynn and I will be taking lots of walks.
My plan to refire my weight loss is in place but one vital part is missing. I need prayers of support and encouragement. Please pray that I keep my commitment to move my life forward while keeping positive. With God all things are possible.

Weather or Not
For the last 18 hours I have been on edge. I have struggled to keep myself from eating for comfort. It's a really good thing we don't have any bad food in the house. You know what I'm talking about..those high calorie, empty nutrition foods. Foods that you mindlessly stuff in your mouth in stressful situations. I owe that to Dave, he is always counseling me not to even bring triggers into the house for anyone's benefit.
The weather is the current situation which I am stressed by. We are being assaulted by thunder storms and even possible tornadoes. No matter what you do you will encounter very stressful situations in your life, therefore Dave is correct. Do not even bring in food that is a trigger for you, I am learning that gum helps me.
So whether it's weather or something else that stresses you, plan for success. Keep your self in check and relax. I'm snacking on edamame.

The Treadmill of Life
Sorry I haven't updated the blog in a while. My beautiful granddaughter was born May 26. She is so precious I can hardly stop smiling. To say I have been distracted is putting it mildly. Dina and Nick are doing a great job as parents. Dina and I are spending lots of girl time traveling to and from all the necessary doctor appointments. Brynn is a blessing we are honored to receive.
I told you in past entries that I have a full nursery in our home for Brynn. Now that she is here I have on last decision to make about her room. You see my treadmill is in that room too. I have plenty of rooms upstairs where we could move the treadmill but I want to be able stay within ear shot while I continue my fitness program. Treadmills are a safety concern for children but until Brynn is walking, crawling or more mobile I think we will leave it right there across from her crib. She might even benefit from having the treadmill in her nursery.
I will be caring for Brynn when her Mom return's to work. Having my treadmill in her view will set her up for a life where exercise is the norm not the exception. She will see her grandmother hitting the treadmill three times daily. She will provide me with extra motivation and I will show her that a healthy life includes exercise! I think showing her actions of a healthy lifestyle is a gift of love.
Life is like a treadmill workout, if you don't keep moving forward you are destined to get thrown off track. I Love My Life!

Never look a gift horse in the mouth
Sunday was our 28th wedding anniversary. David and I have been blessed with a joyously happy marriage. For our day we chose to do something different. We went to Lonestar Park to watch horse races. Most of our previous anniversary celebrations have included going out for a nice meal. Funny that component did not even come to our minds when we planned our day.
I awoke on our anniversary to the first sunny day we have had in what seems like weeks. Then I was greeted by a visitor I have not welcomed in over a year. Recently I was told I needed to be very careful as I showed to be able to get pregnant based on hormone tests. I had poopood that because I was not even having cycles anymore...Well now you can guess who that unwelcome visitor was. AND IT APPEARED ON MY ANNIVERSARY. I would have welcomed more children but since our son was born it just never happened. But now I am 50 years old and working to gain a healthy body I deserve. Pregnancy at fifty is dangerous for healthy women and even with all the pounds melting away I am not free of my autoimmune disorders. This presents me with new decisions about birth control...maybe the rhythm method is not going to cut it...lol. This was not on my top ten ways to spend our special day.
While I complained about my visitor I refused to let it spoil our day. We went to the races to enjoy our time together. The recurrence of my cycle is really a blessing as, it signified a more healthy body than before the weight loss of the last year. David pointed that out while I complained like a baby. He deals with things in a much more analytical manor than I do. Our differences has always proved a benefit to our relationship. Dave used analysis of data to pick his horses and I used the "I like his name" method balanced with the "Oh that's a pretty color horse" method. Funny but we both had wins and losses and both of us enjoyed each others company. We had a great time at the races and I was able to walk and climb the stairs which was a gift I could not have given myself a year ago.
As anniversaries go I'd say we had a really meaningful day, spent focusing on our blessings and looking forward to our future goals together. If I had to say anyone thing about the day will stick in my memory about this specific anniversary I would say "Never look a gift horse in the mouth". That visitor did not spoil our day and I realized how far I have come toward my goal of a healthy body in the last year.
I love my husband if you hadn't already guessed, I am blessed.

Blessed
One year ago today I changed my life forever. The surgery was not easy for my family to agree upon but in the end it was my decision. Even though my surgery was one Dr. Kim had preformed many times,my health was very different. Not only did I suffer comorbidities of my obesity, I also suffer from three auto immune disorders. One of those was a challenge but three I described as bags of cement I carried on my shoulders. My health had been my identity. Poor Peggy, she can't control her weight because she has so many problems. This surgery was my way of saying I'm dumping the excuses, this is my battle and I am not my illness.
Today I had my year appointment with Dr. Kim and staff. I took the opportunity to let Dr. Kim and staff know that I am a different person today. My life is beautiful and hopeful, thanks in large part to their support and preparation before the surgery. I have realistic goals and am accountable for my choices and successes. I know that without Dr.Kim's help I would not be alive today.
Never let your health define you. The surgery was on my stomach but the healing was in my relationship with reality. Real terms; I have lost a good amount of weight and gained alot of insight. Thank you God, you never left me, in you I have always felt comfort.

Tommorrow is my one year anniversary
Amazing...it's been one year since my vertical sleeve surgery! I could not have made it this far without my fantastic support network.
Special Thanks:
1) God
2) David the love of my life and the best husband.
3) Dr David Kim and his staff
4) Nick and Dina the best kids a mom could ask for.
5) Our extended family
6) The Morgan Family the best neighbors we have ever had.
7) Our Northwood Church Family for the prayer warriors they are.
8) Cici my special nurse assistant who prayed with and for me at the worst of times and in the best of times.
9) The Nursing staff of North Hill Hospital
I owe my life to you all, every spoke of the wheel was critical to my getting rolling as I am today. Dave and Nick thank you for allowing me to take a risk I know scarred the s-word out of you both. Your love and concern make me feel so special everyday. Dina you acted as my advocate of understanding with the guys and Dr.Kim.
Dr Kim I know I asked you to take a huge risk with my case at a time when doing the SAFE thing would have been so much easier. Without your self confidence and your trust of me I think it's a pretty safe bet I would not have lived to see my grand child.
My first grandchild is due this month, what better anniversary gift could you ask for.
I look forward to the next year of this journey. Love to All

Life is not a sprint!
That statement, Life is not a sprint, caps the events of my life in the recent days. My weight loss is stalled and privately I'm pissed. My loved ones tell me it's to be expected because muscle weighs more than fat...WHAT? My body is supposedly turning fat to muscle as I vamp up my exercise. That's just unfair in my book. I want to lose at a faster pace if I move at a faster pace.
Really I knew all about the weight loss pattern and I was not so surprised to stall. This is not the time to change course. Steady improvement is the order of business today. Just as a marathon runner keeps pace with is pack until the time comes to separate from the pack and push their personal limits to win. I am nowhere near the finish. My race, although a challenge to date, is far from over. I would guess the stall is my body saying "Hey your need to concentrate on the distance now and worry about speed when the finish line is in sight." So off to the treadmill I go.
Life is not a sprint, it's a marathon.
